Kentucky lawmakers are taking a sledgehammer to government bloat. A new proposal would create the Kentucky Office of Government Efficiency (KOGE)—a watchdog within the state Auditor’s office, designed to cut waste and force the bureaucracy to justify every dollar it spends.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because it mirrors the federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—except this time, it’s happening at the state level, where bloated budgets and unchecked spending have drained taxpayers for years.
But they’re not stopping there. A DOGE task force is also in the works, set to dig deep into executive branch spending and determine where the waste is hiding.
🔹 Senate Bill 256 & House Concurrent Resolution 50: The legal framework to make this happen.
🔹 KOGE’s Mission: Find waste, cut costs, and hold the government accountable.
🔹 Task Force Members: 10 appointees—House Speaker, Senate President, and minority leaders choose the watchdogs.
The plan? Performance audits. Operational reviews. A deep dive into wasteful spending. Finally, someone’s asking if Kentuckians’ tax dollars are being used responsibly.
