Crazed home invaders ransacked this Ipswich home looking for valuables while a 71 year old home occupant allegedly was shot at and had his arm broken

Ipswich man, Don Currie, 71 had his arm broken by a rifle-wielding home invader after a fight broke out. The fleeing
gunman allegedly took shots at Mr Currie but missed.

Had the home occupants in this incident had access to a firearm the outcome of this violent invasion and physical assault may not have occurred. A 71 year old home owner, Don Currie (left) had his arm broken after the crazed attackers hit him with a firearm. (Pic Courier Mail)

A 27-year-old man was taken into custody at a Bundamba property on Monday afternoon after the incident and subsequently charged with two counts of burglary, one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle, one count of serious assault, one count of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, one count of acts intended to cause assault occasioning bodily harm, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and one count of unlicensed driving.

Shane Power-Smith, 27, was briefly mentioned in Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

He made no application for bail and the matter was adjourned to December 18. He was remanded in custody.

A manhunt is under way for the second alleged offender and police are appealing for information in relation to the incident.

Firearms or the new Community Safety laws do not prevent criminals such as these two offenders from using guns during a robbery. The political party duopoly just makes it harder or impossible for home owners to defend themselves, a common law right which the parties and police believe they can remove.

Don’t underestimate the LNP, they voted with Labor to pass the so-called Community Safety Bill in August. They too hate firearms as much as Labor and Greens. Every shooters group and a wide range of organisations made submissions opposing its draconian provisions, one being any person making adverse comments on social media about government will lose their gun license.

Katters Australian Party’s Castle Law bill which allows a homeowner to defend himself with equal force would have gone a long way to help Mr Currie if the LNP and Labor hadn’t voted against it in the last parliament.

Same horse, different rider.

Shooters Union has warned against the Community Safety law which they believe can be used as a battering ram against those who disagree with government policy on social media.

The Queensland Community Safety Bill 2024 amended at least 12 different Acts, including the Weapons Act, the Explosives Act, the Criminal Code and the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act.

A quick read through the legislation shows some truly frightening things including the power to strip firearms licenses from people because of things their family members do, forcing people to take down social media posts the authorities don’t like, and expanding the situations where police can search people without a warrant.

The newly-elected Liberals have now repealed the Truth Telling and Healing Inquiry for Aboriginal people, which they voted for with Labor prior to the Voice Referendum.

The Queensland LNP got scared after the decisive Voice referendum NO result in October 2023 and vowed to repeal the Truth Telling law if they won the state election in October 2024.

Will the LNP repeal the draconian, unlawful provisions of the Community Safety Act? We urge readers to contact their local LNP state member and tell them to repeal it in the same manner. Tell them you want the ability to defend yourself in your own home by supporting KAP’s Castle Law bill.
