Turning Point Australia will tonight hold a memorial vigil in Sydney marking one year since the death of Charlie Kirk and reflecting on his life, legacy and values.
The peaceful gathering will feature Turning Point Australia National Director Joel Jammal, NSW MLC John Ruddick, Professor Augusto Zimmermann and Johnny Krishna, speaking on Charlie’s legacy and the principles he championed, including free speech, open debate, faith and family.
Jammal said Charlie’s influence had continued to grow in the year since his death.
“It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since Charlie Kirk was taken from us. When you reflect on his legacy and contribution to public life, it’s absolutely clear that Charlie was one of a kind. No one can fill that man’s shoes.”
Jammal described Charlie as a “bridge builder” who was willing to engage respectfully with those who disagreed with him.
“Charlie genuinely wanted the best for the opponents he debated. He did it respectfully, but he was also no pushover. Politics could use a lot more Charlie Kirks.”
“How can we honour Charlie Kirk? Keep turning up. Defend your values. Get involved at elections. Invest your time into this country’s future and your children’s future.”
“While his attacker was armed, Charlie was also armed with the most dangerous thing in history – his voice. Use yours.”
Tonight’s vigil will give supporters an opportunity to gather peacefully, remember Charlie and stand for the values he championed.
“Remember what Charlie taught you. A bit of Charlie lives on in every person who has the courage to stand up, speak out and get involved,” Jammal said.
