President Donald Trump has instructed Elon Musk to conduct a comprehensive audit of Pentagon spending. Trump stressed the importance of scrutinizing the Defense Department’s expenditures to identify potential waste and inefficiency. Musk, who leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), will also be responsible for examining spending within the Education Department.
During a recent press conference, Trump stated, “We’re going to go through everything,” highlighting his dedication to overhauling federal spending. The DOGE commission, under Musk’s leadership, has already been involved in controversial investigations of other government agencies, including the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Trump praised Musk’s efforts, noting that his team has uncovered significant issues across various departments.
The Pentagon, with an annual budget exceeding $800 billion, has long struggled to pass its own financial audits. Musk’s review is expected to uncover areas for improvement, though it may face opposition from lawmakers and entrenched interests.
