Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is taking legal action against the state of New York, Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James, and Mark Schroeder. The DOJ’s lawsuit targets New York’s immigration policies, which Bondi claims prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. According to Bondi, this practice will no longer be tolerated.
The lawsuit follows a similar one filed against Illinois, which Bondi mentioned New York did not heed. The legal action is part of a broader effort to ensure that states comply with federal immigration laws. The lawsuit also addresses New York’s Driver’s License Access and Privacy Act, known as the Green Light Law, which allows individuals to obtain driver’s licenses without proving their legal status in the country.
Bondi highlighted that millions of immigrants with violent records are currently in the country illegally, and states that do not comply with federal law will face legal consequences. New York has been bending over backward to accommodate people who broke the law to get here, while its own citizens struggle with crime, homelessness, and skyrocketing costs. Bondi’s message is loud and clear: this ends today. America comes first. No more free passes for leaders who sell out their own people.
