The Bureau of Statistics has form with hiding or misusing public data. The ABS sent out survey forms to every voter in Australia for the Same Sex Marriage plebiscite in 2017. Australia Post returned a reported 248,000 envelopes marked ‘not known at this address’ which were obtained from the electoral roll.
Instead of informing the Electoral Commission their roll was incorrect, our investigations found the ABS shredded the envelopes without recording the bogus names and addresses.
