Democrat voters in Michigan are jumping ship in droves after radical progressive Abdul El-Sayed narrowly clinched the Democratic Senate nomination Tuesday night.
Even loyal MS NOW viewers and self-described liberals are openly declaring they will not vote for the socialist-backed candidate and will instead support Republican Mike Rogers in November.
MS NOW host Chris Jansing herself reported the stunning defection:
“And I want to tell you really quickly, as I was getting on the plane this morning, A guy who was a big fan of MSNOW said to me, ‘I’m anxious to see who wins… I voted for Haley Stevens … because of Israel. And I don’t like the position that Abdullah Al-Sayed has on Israel. And in fact, if he wins, I will be voting for Mike Rogers.’”
That was not an isolated comment. Michigan Democrat Dave Tigay put it bluntly: “I will not vote Democrat. I’LL SWITCH OVER!”
Another Democrat voter was equally clear: “I am VERY concerned about the socialist aspect of Abdul… I’m a liberal, NOT a socialist.”

The backlash is real. El-Sayed, the former Wayne County health official and Bernie Sanders/AOC favorite who has called for Medicare for All, abolishing ICE, and cutting off aid to Israel while labeling its actions a “genocide,” just edged out moderate Rep. Haley Stevens in one of the most expensive and bitter Democrat primaries in history.
The result has exposed deep fractures inside the Michigan Democratic Party, fractures that could hand Republicans a critical Senate pickup in a state Donald Trump won in 2024.
Former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel nevertheless predicted that El-Sayed’s nomination would awaken previously disengaged Republican voters.
Former RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, a Michigan native, is already predicting the fallout will awaken the Republican base.
Appearing on Fox News with Bill Hemmer, McDaniel warned that El-Sayed’s victory creates “the most dangerous ticket that Democrats have ever put forward.”
“This will energise Republicans who have been dormant in the past few midterms, have sat them out, or not paid much attention,” McDaniel said. “Suddenly they are awake and aware of the threat.”
She later reinforced the point on social media, declaring that Democrats have nominated “the most dangerous ticket in Michigan’s history” and urging voters to elect Mike Rogers and the rest of the Republican slate.
Jewish Democrats have been especially vocal about their refusal to back El-Sayed. Multiple reports before and after the primary documented prominent Jewish donors and voters saying they would either sit out the race or actively support Rogers if the progressive critic of Israel became the nominee. That threat is now reality.
Available polling indicates that Rogers begins the general election competitively, though the race remains unsettled. An average of three recent pre-primary surveys compiled by 270toWin placed Rogers at 46.7% and El-Sayed at 42.3%. The individual surveys ranged from a tie to a ten-point Rogers advantage.
