Hundreds of thousands have been evacuated from Bordeaux.

The out-of-control situation with the unprecedented wildfires in south-west France got to be so bad that President Emmanuel Macron tasked his Prime Minister, Sebastien Lecornu, with calling another government crisis meeting for today (25).

The Telegraph reported:

“The meeting, gathering key ministers to examine the emergency response, will be the second in as many days. The previous one held late Friday resulted in the dispatch of more troops and a military water-dumping plane to the fire-hit region near Bordeaux.

[…] At least 1,000 troops have been drafted to tackle the “apocalyptic” fires which have forced the evacuation of nearly 270,000 people across France and Spain. In the upmarket peninsula of Cap Ferret, in southwestern France, tourists were forced to flee by boat to escape the flames.

Some 197,000 people were evacuated from Bordeaux, where fires were inching closer to the historic port city.”

France24 reported:

“Some 110,000 people have been evacuated from areas threatened by wildfires in France’s southwest that have scorched 14,000 hectares (35,000 acres), Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said Friday.

Nunez pledged that French authorities would ‘do everything to protect’ the city of Bordeaux, near to which the fires were raging.”

“An ‘unprecedented’ wildfire tearing through southwest France is heading towards the city of Bordeaux, an official said Friday, warning many thousands more people would probably be evacuated.

‘In each of the municipalities affected by the fire’s path, every resident, whether a regular inhabitant or a temporary resident, will receive an alert from us on their mobile phone… giving them the starting signal’, said regional prefect Sophie Brocas, mentioning the town of Saint-Medard-en-Jalles northwest of Bordeaux.”
