The lunatic wing of the Left party, which I think might be close to the whole party at this point, is falling all over themselves today (and everyday over the past few weeks) to make Donald Trump look his utmost incompetent and evil. He does give them plenty to work with, but let’s look at how far beyond that the “progressive” branch is going just in today’s abundant examples.
First off is a tirade about something Tucker Carlson said. Now, I like Tuckered about as much as I like any smarmy, preppy, two-faced, pandering, rich kid who gawks at his guests with I-don’t-understand, puppy-dog eyes anytime a guest says something counter to Carlson’s own way of thinking.
However, while I don’t like the guy who said privately Trump was a devil that would destroy everything Fox built while he now does all he can to suck up to Trump’s audience, I’m a square-shooting guy. So, when I read big headlines this morning saying Carlson was saying Trump would play spanky with his enemies like they were young women in his Epstein harem, I had to take the click bait to see if he really said that.
And, of course, he did not.
While the article below quotes numerous Leftwingnuts flying off their bolts as if he had said something that stupid, the context of what Carlson said was entirely and thoroughly about discipline. So, clearly what sounded like “come to Daddy, little girl, for a vigorous spanking” was really, “Trump is the adult in the room who is not afraid to dole out discipline where it is needed.” He’s the “wait ‘till your father gets home” dad.
Now, it could be that commentators all over the Left went wing-nut crazy because Carlson was talking about corporeal punishment as if it was a useful thing at times. If so, that would explain how they managed to raise so many spoiled woke children who want to cancel anyone who disagrees with them. They have just moved that far away from American and human culture where spanking was always a part of most parent’s repertoire of tools for correcting children for thousands of years. Yes, it was often abused, but I was raised by a mother who spanked me when I deserved it, and I didn’t feel abused. She always said it was important to never spank from your own personal anger.
Carlson, in his winding and idiosyncratic tangent, posited America as a misbehaving child and Trump the patriarchal savior needed to spank her.
America probably does need a good spanking. We used to call that “getting what’s good for you.” On the Left, however, it has risen to the level of a crime that will get you in jail and your kids taken away from you. Now, if it is done at an abusive level, maybe it should; but Carlson said he was speaking of discipline that is “not vengeful.” Maybe the Left doesn’t believe that is possible, but I’m pretty sure a slap on the little hand that reaches again for a red-hot burner after you say, “No,” is a lot less cruel than trying to reason with a child that doesn’t speak by to explaining why she can’t touch the stove. I’d rather see the child associate the clear sting of the slap with red burner than associate an actual scarring burn.
The Left leaned further left into their fascist claims or projected their own pedophilia into what Carlson was saying.
Another story about how lunatic the Left has become said more than 80% of America leans far away from the Democrat efforts to make voting as easy as possible. 84% are still wise enough to think voting should require photo ID to vote and proof of citizenship when registering for the first time. That means even a good number of Democrats think that.
I feel like any reasonable person would not want non-citizens to vote. You wouldn’t pay to join a club as a member and let non-members decide how the club should be run. You wouldn’t be part of a homeowners’ association and let the neighboring HOA vote on who gets to be on your board and vote on the rules you’ll live by. You’d tell them they can go vote in their own HOA election and on their own rules. They have no skin in the game. They don’t pay dues to your association.
Even though that’s ludicrous, so many on the Left don’t think so that we actually have to have this conversation. That’s why Gallup just did a poll on those questions. While clearly the vast majority of Americans still recognize the folly of letting aliens vote, the very fact that 20% think it’s fine shows how out of touch they can be. I think they just think those people will tend to vote Democrat if they see Dems bending over backward to help them do it, so they will be some big recruitment numbers.
While 64% of Americans oppose removing voters from registrations if they haven’t voted in five years, I’ll note that in some Democratic-run states that might be the only way to clear all the dead people off the rosters. Uh, my mistake, I forgot that the dead people do vote in those states. Those voting dead probably constitute the 20% who no longer want photo ID for obvious reasons.
You should have seen how hot under the lapel today the Lefties that run the journalism (I use the term generously) of the L.A. Times got when the “paper’s” owner said the Times was not going to endorse any candidate and stopped the editorial board from endorsing Kamala. God forbid the editors not be allowed to flaunt their bias.
The staff had refused to impartially report both presidential candidates’ records, wanting only to endorse Harris. The owner was subsequently decried as a “useless and spineless whore” for not selling his soul and body to Kamala Harris by allowing his news wrapper to remain her propaganda platform of record.
This caused all-out trauma at The Times. What could be a more obvious example of whoring with the news than being impartial toward both candidates? That seems to be the logic. Of course, the subscription cancellations came pouring through the comments along with footnotes that the cancelers were also encouraging their 800k followers to do likewise.
Wrote one tantrum-thrower from the heart of cancel culture, “This is on you for being a jackass and meddling in the operations of the paper for your friends Elon and Trump. Pathetic. You’re a joke.”
Apparently, he couldn’t realize the joke is on him because, by endorsing Kamala and Walz, those editors are just doing the same thing in using the paper they only work for in favor of their friends. That’s different, of course, if it is the editorial board doing it. On the other hand, the paper’s owner did not make any effort endorse his friends. He merely said the editors wouldn’t endorse anyone either.
We know who you are. We know you’re hostile to democracy. We know you’re a sycophant for dictators. I’ve cancelled. Will never be back.
Why does the last part not surprise me. That is what cancel culture does. Even taking an impartial position is too far to the “fascist” Right for them. Believing they are fighting fascism and saving democracy, they really are the fascists who are insisting the paper tell and support only the one side of the story that is their side. They really are the czars because their way of dealing with opinions they don’t like is just to make sure they cannot be expressed.
They abjectly freak out when anybody anywhere departs from the Party Line, including, as was the case this time, the owner of a Party Line newspaper, who asked his editors to lay out the good policies and bad policies of each candidate. This alone was taken, by these defenders of “democracy” as an irreversible, unforgivable betrayal.
As a good cancel-culture veteran, the Editorials Editor Mariel Garza did what any self-respecting person in her position would do and cancelled herself by resigning immediately. Proof that, if you’re simply not far Left, then you’re fascist.
Ah well, I’m sure the paper’s owner, Patrick Soon-Shiong, will miss her as he exercises his own free speech with the paper that he owns by asking the paper to start telling both sides of the story. A bridge too far for any extreme Lefty. (I’m not suggesting all are extreme, but the whole nation is clearly becoming more extreme on each side of the political chasm.)
Here’s what the owner says for himself:f
Soon-Shiong didn’t even try to force them to tell both sides. He just accepted, without any discipline, their refusal to say anything—their preference to having to tell both sides. God forbid he ask his paper to act impartially.
Says a former journalist,
Though I was ejected many years ago, I still spent many years inside of editorial structures, both magazines and newspapers. We were not indulged in this way, at all. We were reared on boot-camp reporting, thunderous brawls, all nighters with 10 cups of coffee, and no illusions that the periodical was our private ideological playground.
I can picture, for example, my old boss Bob Guccione Jr. behind his desk as his whole staff declares mutiny—being too precious to report.
They would have, at best, had 30 minutes to clear out their desks. If it were his father, Bob Guccione Sr. it would have been 0 minutes. Picture a Warner Brothers cartoon in which all the forest animals double back to grab their teeth mid air for how fast they fled amidst the fury.
However, Soon-Shiong is ridiculed as a whore by critics on the Left because he did nothing to try to pressure his editors into doing his bidding. When they refused impartiality, he went along with their saying nothing.
Now, as I say not every journalist on the Left leans so far his brains dangle out his left ear. David Axelrod is a good example. No question he’s on the Left, but listen to his criticism of the L.A. Times’ wonderkind Kamala Harris:
“The things that would concern me is when she doesn’t want to answer a question, her habit is to kind of go to Word Salad City.”
Yes, she kinda chops the same thing up a dozen different ways to make it sound like she has more than one thought on a subject and dumps it all in the salad bowl. Having lived in liberal Bubbleland all her life, perhaps she doesn’t know what to think or how to.
Even …
Anderson Cooper called out her flip-floppy hypocrisy on the issue of border security. Noting that Harris now supports a bill that would allocate $650 million toward a border wall, Cooper said, “Under Donald Trump, you criticized the wall more than 50 times. You called it stupid, useless and a ‘medieval vanity project.’ Is a border wall stupid?”
Her response added up to the problem was that Trump didn’t build enough wall. It’s what sells right now to the middle voter she has to court.
