CNN ran a segment on an app called ICEBlock. It lets users mark the location of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on a live map. No logins. No tracking. Just anonymous pins. The developer calls it a digital alert system. Homeland Security calls it obstruction.
Kristi Noem, the current Secretary of Homeland Security, posted the warning herself. She called the app “obstruction of justice” and said promoting it could trigger prosecution. Her exact words: “If you obstruct or assault our law enforcement, we will hunt you down and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” She confirmed that DHS is actively working with the Justice Department to review CNN’s role in airing the segment.

Attorney General Pam Bondi added fuel. She said the developer “better watch out.” She confirmed DOJ is looking into it. ICE agents have reported a 500% spike in field assaults since January. Bondi connected the data to tools like ICEBlock. Her view is clear. The app puts officers in danger.
The developer, Joshua Aaron, told CNN he created ICEBlock to “help people stay safe and informed.” He said it does not store personal data, IP addresses, or device information. The app is sitting at 20,000 users and climbing. It’s live on Android and iOS in multiple languages.
CNN’s report showed footage of the interface. Pins. Alerts. Directional mapping. ICE was contacted for comment before the segment aired. They responded later, calling the app a security threat. Former ICE Acting Director Tom Homan said DOJ “needs to step in fast.”
The White House has not made a formal legal call. But Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a statement accusing CNN of “amplifying tools that obstruct federal law enforcement and endanger the people who risk their lives enforcing immigration law.”
The debate is wide open. Is this journalism? Is this interference? Federal lawyers are now reviewing both.
