GOP Monitors Grassroots Activists | National File

Trump’s White House sends a highlighted warning to more than 3,000 conservative organizations as its coalition splinters after the election defeat.

Trump’s White House warned more than 3,000 conservative organizations that it was monitoring their public statements Thursday. Two days after Republicans lost both chambers of Congress.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the message arrived as conservative leaders blamed Trump’s policies for the defeat.

“As always, we are monitoring statements, press releases, and media engagements from your organizations,” the memo said. The White House highlighted that sentence in yellow.

The Office of Public Liaison sent the memo. It listed Trump’s accomplishments and pledged to prevent Democrats from reversing them. Leaders of two prominent conservative organizations confirmed receiving it.

A White House spokesperson denied that the warning constituted a threat and described it as an effort to rally supporters. The spokesperson claimed similar messages had gone out before. The Journal’s review of earlier messages found no matching language about monitoring.

The account 1stclassclips accused the GOP of surveilling its grassroots to stop supporters from leaving the Republican plantation, rather than holding Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita accountable.

Pro-life leaders had already challenged that treatment of the base.

“You cannot spend years telling your base to sit down and shut up, then act surprised when they don’t stand up for you on Election Day,” Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser said.
