A GROUP of law activists will file six months of research and paperwork in the Federal Court of Australia, in a public interest lawsuit challenging sweeping government mandates on digital identification, mandatory social media age-verification systems, and unprecedented digital restrictions that impact the national security and sovereignty of the Commonwealth of Australia.
The filing accuses Federal Government ministers of 153 criminal offences under various Acts and confronts what the plaintiffs describe as a systemic expansion of state surveillance.
A key figure in the legal action is Childers (Qld) man Steven Spiers, who is known for his United Kingdom of Australia campaign and his books His books, “Realm and Man” and “Realm and Commonwealth”.
“While online safety and security are vital public concerns, legal experts argue that current measures cross a red line into authoritarian control,” a backgrounder from the group states.
“This landmark lawsuit demonstrates how compulsory digital IDs, rigid age blocks, and sweeping national security overreach create centralized clearinghouses of personal data.
“These systems leave Australians vulnerable to aggressive surveillance creep, financial tracking, and systemic censorship
that serves external interests rather than domestic autonomy.”
The key pillars of the group’s legal defense are as follows:
- Challenging Mandatory Digital ID: Resisting government schemes that tie basic
digital participation and civic life to invasive biometric or centralized identity tracking. - Protecting Free Expression & Access: Fighting heavy-handed social media
restrictions that muzzle open discourse and isolate younger generations under the
pretext of protection. - Reining in Government Overreach: Demanding judicial oversight against broad
national security exemptions that bypass constitutional checks and balances.
