Alan Dershowitz just cut through the fog. The man who once defended Jeffrey Epstein broke silence with a July 17 op-ed laying out what’s real and what’s sealed. He says there’s no client list. No Mossad ties. No bedroom cameras. He says he knows names. He says the courts sealed them. He says the media should sue to get them unsealed. The silence, he claims, is legal—not voluntary.
The FBI interviewed alleged victims who named several clients. Those names were redacted. Dershowitz says they don’t include any current officeholders. He also says the courts sealed negative information about some accusers to protect reputations. The Justice Department and defense lawyers are bound by those orders. Dershowitz argues the media has the power to challenge them and should.
He addressed the surveillance rumors. According to him, Epstein reported theft of cash and a licensed firearm from his Palm Beach home. Police installed a camera in the living room. Dershowitz says he never saw or heard of cameras in guest bedrooms. That contradicts sworn statements from Sarah Ransome and others, who claimed tapes were filmed during encounters and showed faces. Federal filings from 2023 and 2024 referenced caches of photos and videos. Ghislaine Maxwell allegedly told a journalist in 2016 that Epstein had secret tapes. Dershowitz says those claims don’t match the evidence he saw.

He also tackled the Mossad theory. Dershowitz says Epstein had no ties to Israeli intelligence. His sources in Israel confirmed it. He blames the rumor on confusion with Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine’s father, who was linked to Mossad decades ago. Dershowitz says if Epstein had intel connections, his lawyers would have used that leverage to cut a better deal. They didn’t. Epstein served 18 months and registered as a sex offender.
On Trump, Dershowitz says he saw nothing improper. He says Trump banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago long before becoming president. That claim is backed by public records. The Wall Street Journal reported on a risqué birthday letter allegedly sent by Trump to Epstein in 2003. Trump denied writing it and said he would sue the Journal. Dershowitz said he doesn’t remember writing a letter either, though the Journal claims one exists.
Dershowitz says Epstein committed suic*de. But he suspects jail staff may have helped. Cameras were broken. Guards were missing. The cellmate was transferred. He didn’t allege foul play. He did allege negligence.
The op-ed closes with a warning. Dershowitz says conspiracy theories are drowning out facts. He says the case is locked behind court orders. He says the truth is boring. But the public isn’t buying it. The demand for transparency is growing. The DOJ says there’s no client list. Dershowitz says there are names. The courts say they’re sealed. The media says they want them. The victims say they deserve justice.
