The Biden administration didn’t just ramp up spending on so-called “misinformation” efforts—it built a censorship industry. A staggering 86% of federal grants targeting misinformation were launched under Joe Biden, with total spending skyrocketing to $267 million since 2021. Under Trump? A mere $6.7 million.
Where did this money go? A whopping $127 million was dumped into COVID-19 “misinformation” programs—funding advocacy campaigns, research studies, and technology designed to flag and suppress content deemed problematic. In other words, taxpayer dollars fueled efforts to silence dissent on pandemic policies, vaccines, and lockdowns.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) got a massive cut to target vaccine skepticism, especially among racial and ethnic minorities. Meanwhile, the National Science Foundation (NSF) poured money into projects analyzing how political polarization fuels disinformation. One of these grants—$200,000—labeled populist leaders like Trump as barriers to “societal solidarity.”
And then there’s AI. Federal agencies spent big on artificial intelligence tools designed to track and shut down online discussions deemed “misleading.” A $300,000 contract with Innov8AI built software to hunt down medical “misinformation.” Another $250,000 went to libraries creating “misinformation escape rooms.” Yes, the government is literally funding games to train people to reject narratives it dislikes.
At its core, this isn’t about truth—it’s about control. The establishment needs the illusion of a misinformation crisis to justify mass censorship. The real target? Political opposition, particularly the MAGA movement. This is a taxpayer-funded war on free speech.
