Tommy Robinson leading peaceful protest is arrested for “terrorism” – www.cairnsnews.org

TOMMY Robinson, the outspoken British leader of the protest movement against mass immigration, was arrested under anti-terrorism legislation on Saturday – apparently by a special squad of police not associated with the Metropolitan Police.

Supporters said Robinson was arrested under anti-terror laws following a large protest in London’s Trafalgar Square on Saturday, at which Robinson’s documentary Silenced was screened, allegedly in contempt of a High Court order.

Police said officers were making further inquiries but Metropolitan Police issued a statement saying they were not involved in any such arrest.

A posting on X made under Robinson’s name stated the following: “We can confirm that Tommy Robinson has been detained by Police using powers afforded to them under the Terrorism Act 2000. That’s right, you read that correctly, Tommy is being held by Police using counter terrorism legislation. We will update you as and when we can.”

Steve Miller, speaking on Leading British Conversations (LBC), described the large demonstration at Trafalgar Square as definitely peaceful and with a family-like atmosphere. He said it was called by Tommy Robinson because he and his supporters “want our country back”.

Miller called for serious conversations and less name calling over the fact that many British families were prepared to take the day out and protest because they felt their country was being sold out.

Robinson’s documentary focuses on the case of Jamal Hijazi, who was a schoolboy when he was assaulted at Almondbury Community School in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, in October 2018. The boy had water poured on him, a minor incident which was blown up in the media into “water boarding torture of a Syrian boy by an English racist brute”.

Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley Lennon, grew up among immigrants in London and posted the one hour 45-minute film on X. He said he had previously avoided publishing the video because he feared violence and persecution by courts.
