Australia is rolling out one of the most aggressive internet ID regimes in the Western world.

Starting 10 December 2025, it will be illegal for anyone under 16 to hold accounts on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook even if they signed up before the law passed or have parental consent. The burden falls entirely on tech platforms. If they fail to block underage users, they face fines up to AUD 49.5 million per breach.
