She previewed flight logs, names, and promised “a lot of information” would be released. MAGA influencers were invited to the White House to collect binders labeled “Phase 1” of the Epstein files. The contents were mostly recycled public records. Still, the base held out hope.
By June, the tone shifted. Bondi said the files didn’t exist. The Justice Department released a memo stating Epstein died by suicide and that no client list was found in the thousands of pages reviewed. The memo included 11 hours of surveillance footage from Epstein’s cell, though a minute of video was missing. The DOJ said no further disclosures were warranted. That memo triggered backlash. MAGA influencers accused Bondi of betrayal. Elon Musk posted that Trump was in the files. Steve Bannon warned of political fallout. Laura Loomer called for Bondi’s resignation.
Then came July. Trump posted on Truth Social that the Epstein files were “written by Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden Administration.” He compared them to the Steele dossier.
