The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in 2024 for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif. These warrants stem from alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the ongoing Gaza conflict and events from October 2023.
The ICC alleges Netanyahu and Gallant directed military attacks targeting civilians in Gaza, used starvation as a weapon of war, and committed other crimes against humanity. Mohammed Deif faces accusations related to the October 7 attacks, including mass killings, hostage-taking, torture, and rape.
However, enforcing these warrants is fraught with challenges. Neither Israel nor the United States recognizes the ICCâs jurisdiction, complicating potential arrests. The cases highlight escalating tensions and the broader struggle for accountability in one of the worldâs most volatile conflicts.
