NIGEL Farage’s Reform UK party is pulling disaffected Conservative Party MPs and members into its ranks and Boris “Messy Hair” Johnson, one of the UK’s most notable fake conservatives, is not happy.
Johnson went online to rail against “those allegedly poised to defect to a famously Russia-loving party”.
A few days ago, Andrew Rosindell became the second Conservative MP in just a week to defect to Reform UK.
“Andrew defecting just confirms what we all know. The Conservative Party, especially in London, is finished,” said Laila Cunningham, Reform UK’s candidate for the London Mayoral election in May. She says Rosindell’s defection signals a total collapse of the Tory Party in the capital.
The other high-profile defection is the Conservatives’ Robert Jenrick, the Shadow Justice Secretary and cabinet member, was sacked by Conservatives leader Kemi Badenoch, before he defected from the Conservatives on January 15.
At a weekend rally in Newark, Jenrick pitched at supporters with calls to stop migration, cut taxes, and fix public services – things that regular conservatives should consider standard policy. Jenrick used the word that other Conservatives have avoided – “broken” in relation to the state of Britain.
The event drew at least 2,000 attendees despite facing some heckling. Some critics have questioned Jenrick’s refusal to call a by-election in Newark.
The fact that Badenoch, a not very inspiring black woman, is the Conservatives leader, speaks volumes about the new breed of limp-wristed small-L liberal alleged conservatives, a breed we are only too painfully aware of in our own “conservative” parties in Australia.
